The French-Proven\u00e7al is a language spread on a wide territory across the western alpine range, in an area including three bordering nations in which people have deep historic bonds as proved by the common linguistic and cultural origin.<\/p>\n<p>The widest district is in France where Savoy, Dauphin\u00e9 Viennoise, Bresse and Lyonnais are of French- Proven\u00e7al language. All of the Suisse romande except Jura, in Italy the Aosta Valley, some of the Piedmont valleys such as Lanzo Valleys, Susa Valley, Orco Valley, Soana, Cenischia and Sangone and in Puglia, Foggia Province, the municipalities of Celle San Vito and of Faeto belong to French-Proven\u00e7al origin and language.<\/p>\n<p>The French- Proven\u00e7al is an Anglo-Norman language, such as French and Occitan. In reality it is a linguistic family formed by similar \u201cpatois\u201d (dialects) as the same inhabitants call their way of speaking. Even if having common characteristics to French and Occitan, it has specific linguistic occurences that make if different from these two languages. French-Proven\u00e7al, far from being a mixture of the French and Occitan, is nowadays known as one of the main Anglo-Norman languages.<\/p>\n<p>Beside language, the French-Proven\u00e7al Piedmont minority population has preserved until now, a rich cultural and traditional heritage and, lately, some young groups have given rebirth to the traditional music as well.<\/p>\n<p>In 1873, the linguist Graziadio Isaia Ascoli, classified for the first time the French-Proven\u00e7al language as autonomous.
