From Caprie to Morgex along the Sentiero Italia
A 5-day walking route that combines wines, landscapes, and mountain stories.
Case Mandria: it is from this small hamlet on the slopes of the Lower Susa Valley, in Caprie, that on September 23, 2026 a different kind of journey will begin.
The protagonist of this adventure is Mauro Greppi: a winegrower by passion, in the renovated hamlet of Case Mandria he tends daily to his vineyards of Baratuciat, a white wine from the DOC Val Susa. With these grapes he produces Lué, a 100% Baratuciat wine that takes its name from the ancient name of the Case Mandria hamlet.
It is from this wine that Mauro conceived the idea of promoting and enhancing the culture of mountain wine, walking along the Sentiero Italia through some of the spectacular alpine valleys of the western arc. Departure from Caprie, Case Mandria, to reach Morgex, at the foot of Mont Blanc, home of Europe’s highest-altitude wine, the DOC Blanc de Morgex.
Two different territories, the Susa Valley and the Aosta Valley, united by heroic viticulture and a deep wine culture, joined in an oenological partnership that will be realized when Mauro arrives at the Cave Mont Blanc cellars with the gift of the bottle of Baratuciat that will have crossed these magnificent Alps with him.
But a journey is not only about places to visit; a journey is also about encounters, sharing, faces. Like those of people who, at the end of each stage, offer their hospitality. Mauro’s journey also gives value to those who, like him but in different ways, have decided to live and do business in the mountains. Thanks to the support of the Valli di Lanzo Tourism Consortium, Mauro will visit some of the hospitality businesses he will encounter along his journey, telling the story of those who today make tourism possible in these mountains. Because behind every experience there are real people: women and men who live in the territory and love it deeply.
