Overview

Easy itinerary that, following the course of the Stura, connects Ala di Stura, the village of sundials and frescoes, to Balme. Along the route you will encounter Big Bench no. 315 and it is possible to reach the spectacular Gorgia di Mondrone.

Starting point

Directions

The itinerary starts from Frazione Villar in Ala di Stura, at the end of the paved road. Continue on the wide dirt track, always following the orographic left of the Stura. You will first reach Frazione Tomà in Martassina and then continue through the meadows towards Mondorne. Just before reaching the hamlet, a detour on the left indicates the path to the Gorgia, reachable in about ten minutes. The Gorgia can also be observed thanks to a small bridge with glass panels that overlooks its deep gorge.

Back on the main trail you will reach the Big Bench from which you can observe the village of Mondrone with the imposing Uja behind it. Continue towards Molette, where the trail becomes a narrow track that runs below the road level. After passing the village of Molette, the trail climbs back up to the provincial road, which must be followed for about 100 meters until you encounter a paved road bordered by guardrails on the right.

Follow it until you reach Frazione Chialambertetto, then turn left crossing the bridge over the Stura. Cross the provincial road near the stop sign at the end of the road (here you will find an information board) and take the grassy track that climbs towards Balme in a south-west direction. The track then descends to Villaggio Albaorn, in Balme, arriving at a large square.

Notes

The fords between Molette and Chialambertetto have currently collapsed, increasing the difficulty of the route from T to E on the variant of this section. Unlike the rest of the trail, the section indicated above is not passable in the presence of snow.
