Overview
Route that reaches the narrow passage of Ghicet di Sea, a pass that connects Pian della Mussa with Vallone di Sea in Val Grande. The strenuous ascent is rewarded by the spectacular view of the peaks exceeding 3,000 meters, such as Bessanese and Ciamarella, as well as Uja di Mondrone.
Starting point
DirectionsHaving reached the Ciriè Refuge via the paved road, take the path on the right (the signposts are located at a dirt clearing) leading to Pian Ciamarella (2,100 m).
After reaching the wide plateau, cross it along a faint trail staying on the orographic left of Rio della Ciamarella; at the alpine pastures head northeast toward a rocky promontory. The trail, marked by a few cairns, climbs the grassy slope of this ridge then curves east into a side valley from which the destination can already be glimpsed in the distance.
The trail climbs fairly steeply along the valley floor then curves right onto a grassy slope at 2,550 m elevation. From here, after crossing a first section along the hillside, the trail turns east again with an ascending traverse that culminates in the final steep stretch of scree to reach the pass, called Ghicet di Sea (2,750 m) precisely for its narrow passage that leads into Vallone di Sea below.
Return along the outward route.
