Overview

An easy excursion that allows you to reach the two Sagnasse Lakes by following a section of the Val Grande Balcony Trail, dominated by the imposing peaks on the border with France.

Starting point

Directions

Upon reaching Borgata Rivotti, continue along the paved road that passes above the Cappella della Madonna della Visitazione and leads quickly to Case Giordano.

Near the group of houses, leave the paved road and take the path on the right, which crosses through the hamlet before climbing into the woods.

At an altitude of approximately 1,650 m, the path intersects the Val Grande Balcony Trail cart track, which you must follow uphill towards the west. Along the route, you will encounter numerous Gias, the characteristic alpine pastures, and the view is dominated by the imposing peaks of the Levanne.

After about 1h of walking along the Balcony Trail, you reach a splendid grassy basin, on whose slopes the path to the lakes climbs. The route ascending towards the Laghi di Sagnasse is met at an altitude of approximately 1,900 m, on the right relative to the cart track, 100 meters after Gias Crest and the junction indicating the descent to Groscavallo on the left.

With a steep climb, in about 40 min you reach the hollow where the lakes are located: the largest (2,064 m) is clearly visible below on the right, while to reach the smallest (2,083 m), located on the slopes of Monte Barrouard, you must pass the Gias dei Laghi.

The return follows the same route as the outward journey.

Notes

Possibility to connect the ascent to the lakes with the Val Grande Balcony Trail loop.
