Overview
An itinerary combining a pleasant walk in the wonderful Tornetti basin with the adventurous climb to reach the Rocca Moross cross from Colle Pian Fum, crossing its characteristic ridge.
Starting point
DirectionsFrom Alpe Bianca, where the remains of the ski resort and a huge eyesore are located, follow the cart track in the direction of Colle Pian Fum (2,042 m).
The itinerary takes place almost entirely on this dirt road, which crosses the entire Tornetti basin, alternating between flat sections and gentle climbs.
Having reached the pass, looking east, the Rocca Moross cross (2,134 m) can be seen from afar. Here, there are no longer white-red markers or signposts, but you must refer to the sparse stone cairns; despite this, the trail is always quite clear.
From the pass, head left along the grassy ridge on a slight descent. The trail skirts the slopes of the Rocca, crossing some scree slopes and exposed sections. Climb to the cross with some steep zig-zags on the slope below. From the summit, you can enjoy the view over the Tornetti peak below, the Val d’Ala, and the plain.
Return via the same route.
Notes
Although the section up to Colle Pian Fum presents no obvious difficulty, the climb to the cross from the pass features exposed sections and passages requiring a sure foot.
