A love for the mountains and a hamlet coming back to life

Case Mandria. This is the name of a small hamlet located in Caprie, in the Lower Susa Valley; a hamlet that had been completely abandoned since 1994 before Mauro Greppi purchased the entire property in 2009 to embark on an ambitious project: to breathe new life into this village.

Thus, year after year, driven by their love for this land, Mauro and his wife began to reclaim the area, which had been overgrown with dense vegetation, by building a road to provide access to the hamlet, bringing in water and electricity, starting the renovation of some of the six farmhouses on the property, and above all, reintroducing viticulture along the hamlet's ancient terraces.

Here, the star is Baratuciat, a native grape variety of the Susa Valley used to produce an elegant and delicate Valsusa DOC white wine. The wine has been named Lué, the ancient name for the hamlet, a term that in Franco-Provençal appears to indicate a flat ledge situated along very steep slopes; indeed, the hamlet serves as a panoramic natural terrace overlooking the Lower Susa Valley, with the Sacra di San Michele towering on the horizon.

Among the many activities launched within the hamlet, such as tastings and yoga classes, the Case Mandria project is now looking to the future: combining agricultural production with sustainable hospitality services.
