Pakinò Ski lift
Balme, located at about 1500 m of altitude, is the site where skis were used for the first time in Italy. In 1954, it was one of the first places in Turin Province to build ski lifts for the alpine skiing practice. Remembered as the ideal site where to learn this sport, the “Sciovia Pakinò” has recently been completely rebuilt. It is a ski lift that allows learning of alpine skiing basics. The runs, right in the village nearby a wide parking area, are favorably exposed allowing skiing on natural snow for a long period and at moderate costs. Equipment is available for renting and lessons with certified masters can be booked.
Ice skating ring
An ice skating ring has recently been realized on natural ice and in a striking place at Balme’s end, where, during winter months, the county road is closed and the cross country ski run to Pian della Mussa starts. Equipment may be rented inside the heated and comfortable place. The ring, located near the old ski jumping structure, is at the start of both the cross country ski run to Pian della Mussa and the prepared trail for snowshoes trekkers.
